About The Team
The Social Worker will join the Lambeth Substance Misuse Team at Lorraine Hewitt House in Brixton. The team is multidisciplinary, comprising nurses, psychologists, addiction psychiatrists, drug and alcohol workers, and social workers. The service supports anyone over 18 with drug or alcohol problems, providing individual assessments, prescribing, psychology and counselling, recovery groups, community and inpatient detoxification, rehabilitation, and aftercare services. The team also conducts Care Act assessments for HMP Brixton and performs social work within homeless hostels.
About The Role
To promote strength‑based practice and positive change by applying social work methods, models and tools. The role involves making professional judgements within relevant legal and policy frameworks, carrying out assessments of needs for care and support, developing and implementing plans, reviewing progress and reassessing needs, and conducting adult safeguarding enquiries. The social worker will also support the work of other professionals involved in safeguarding and develop safeguarding plans aligned with individuals’ wishes and circumstances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct individual assessments for adults with substance misuse issues.
- Plan, implement and review care and support strategies.
- Carry out adult safeguarding enquiries and support safeguarding plan development.
- Provide support and advice within a multidisciplinary setting.
- Perform Care Act assessments for HMP Brixton and work in homeless hostels.
- Collaborate with team members including nurses, psychologists, and addiction specialists.
- Ensure compliance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Care Act 2014.
- Engage in supervision and professional development as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified social worker, ideally with experience in the substance misuse sector.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Care Act 2014.
- Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple cases.
- BCG or equivalent assessment and a DBS clearance (Enhance Certificate).
Work Pattern
Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm (35 hrs per week). Opportunities to work from home; presence in the office required 3–4 days per week.
