Health and Social Care Worker Apprentice – HMP Northumberland

Are you a caring and compassionate Healthcare Support Worker? Would you like the opportunity to develop your skills in a Health and Justice setting? You could be a key part of our multi-disciplined healthcare team, providing individualised care for our patients in a prison environment.

Main duties of the job

Our services include Substance Misuse, reception screening, providing agreed care packages, undertaking appropriate physical health observations, clinics such as Phlebotomy, ECG, NHS health checks, sexual health, and health promotion. You will need a good level of communication skills, be a team player and provide high standards of care to patients under the supervision of a qualified nurse/practitioner. If you have NVQ level 3 and a good level of care experience, then we could have the perfect job for you.

Job responsibilities

Substance Misuse monitoring, reception screening, providing agreed care packages, undertaking appropriate physical health observations, clinics such as Phlebotomy, ECG, NHS health checks, sexual health, and health promotion.

Person Specification

  • Genuine interest and desire to work in Secure Services within Specialism
  • Vocational qualification at level 2 or equivalent relevant experience (e.g. GCSE grade 9-4)
  • Prepared to study and complete Level 3 qualification (equivalent to A Level/BTEC National level)
  • Understanding of basic health care issues.
  • Computer literate, and able to use a range of Microsoft Office programmes. Standard keyboard skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, maintaining effective working relationships and mitigating conflict.
  • Good understanding of confidentiality.
  • Experience of work in a multi‑disciplinary team setting.
  • Holds relevant Health Care certificate or working towards this (e.g. Care Course)
  • Knowledge or experience of working within a prison or secured environment setting
  • Good patient assessment skills – knowledge of signs and symptoms of a range of mental and physical disorders and its effects on individuals.
