Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Social Worker to join our team covering the picturesque district of the Staffordshire Moorlands, in one of our Assessment & Staying Together Teams based in Staffordshire Moorlands.

We have a small but supportive and welcoming team with excellent relationships with district colleagues in Early Help, SEND, Education, Children with Disabilities and we are co‑located with our Children in Care and Care Leavers Team. We embed a restorative model and are committed to ensuring every child is supported through a whole district approach. Dedicated PA support is provided so you can spend more time doing the work that matters most.

Career progression is supported through a framework that includes the Practice Educator Programme, Aspiring Social Work Practice Lead and Aspiring Team Manager programmes, and strong links within the West Midlands teaching partnership.

Main Responsibilities

You will be working with families across the continuum of need from Child in Need, Child Protection, Children in Care, through to the conclusion of Care Proceedings and Adoption planning.

  • Completing statutory duties in coordinating the child’s plan, reviewing and ensuring children are seen and heard.
  • Undertaking section 47 investigations.
  • Placing children into Local Authority care when it is agreed they can no longer remain at home.
  • Completing private law reports and public law proceedings.
  • Referring into centralised services for specialist support.
  • Liaising with all key agencies and making necessary referrals.
  • Working closely with Early Help colleagues.
  • Uploading visits, child plans and assessments in a timely manner in line with the Local Authority’s recording policy.

Qualifications and Experience

Professional social work qualification and Social Work England registration are required.

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of direct work with children and families.
  • Experience working in a multi‑agency environment.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet clear deadlines.
  • Flexible approach to work and ability to work well in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Desire to work with children and families to give them the right support at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it is safe to do so.

Driving is a key part of the role; you must have a current UK driving licence, a vehicle and be a confident driver covering both short and long distances.
