Social Worker – Secondment (6 months)
An opportunity has arisen within the South Derbyshire Mental Health Team for a qualified and committed Social Worker.
The team works with people with mental health difficulties from the age of 16 within the community. You will require good working knowledge of the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005 to assess clients’ care needs, and will work with them and their support networks to create strengths‑based support plans. You will need knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation. Using person‑centred, strengths‑based approaches you will support people to live life as independently as possible.
Good working knowledge of Safeguarding is also essential, and confidence in decision making and risk management is required. Being a qualified AMHP would be an advantage, although not essential.
The post is a secondment for six months and would ideally start at the beginning of September.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess clients’ care needs and coordinate support plans using the Care Act and Mental Capacity Act.
- Apply the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation in caring and safeguarding decisions.
- Use person‑centred, strengths‑based approaches to support independence.
- Make sound decisions and manage risk confidently.
- Engage with support networks of clients.
Qualifications and Experience
- Qualified social worker and committed to practice.
- Good knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act and Safeguarding.
- Experience working with people with mental health difficulties aged 16 and over.
- Qualifying as an AMHP is an advantage.
- Willingness to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check due to access to children/vulnerable adults.

Working Arrangements
The role offers a hybrid approach, with a mix of working from home and the office. Ward visits are required. Provisional interview date: week commencing 13th July 2026.
