Job Overview

Ultrasound Department Assistant (UDA) – join the Royal United Hospitals Bath and District Hospitals ultrasound team. The role supports sonographers and multidisciplinary staff to ensure smooth operation of the ultrasound service and high‑quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient service to patients and staff while maintaining high patient care standards.
  • Explain examinations to patients and offer reassurance.
  • Coordinate with portering staff and liaise with other healthcare staff to ensure efficient running of U/S sessions.
  • Maintain a clean, prepared environment for patients, including linen changes and stock supplies.
  • Undertake administrative and clerical duties – cover reception when required, data entry on Soliton and BadgerNet, retrieve patient images.
  • Travel to community‑based ultrasound units – driving preferred.
  • Ensure cleanliness of environment and equipment; adhere to infection control guidelines and maintain patient dignity and confidentiality.
  • Participate in duties evenings and weekends with a flexible approach.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

  • GCSE pass in English Language and Maths or equivalent.
  • At least 6 months experience working with the public, preferably in a caring environment.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Direct Care or equivalent (desirable).
  • Previous experience in a hospital clinical setting (desirable).
  • NHS Care certificate (desirable).

Essential Knowledge and Experience

  • Clear verbal and written communication in English.
  • Understanding of ultrasound role within NHS.
  • Ability to use IT systems and databases.
  • Adaptability within a changing, multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in administration (desirable).
