Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children Social Worker

We have an exciting vacancy in our Unaccompanied Asylum‑Seeking Children’s (UASC) Team for a Social Worker.

Role Overview

Our team is made up of Social Workers and Personal Advisors and leads on all aspects of unaccompanied asylum‑seeking children and young peoples’ experiences from the point that they come to Cambridgeshire. Recognising the trauma, challenges, and loss our children and young people have been through, while undertaking holistic assessments of their needs (including age assessments where necessary) and supporting them through the immigration system, we are also ambitious for their future. The role is based in Scott House, Huntingdon.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead professional, ensuring all matters in respect of safeguarding are dealt with promptly, effectively and in line with child protection procedures, escalating where necessary.
  • Undertake assessments to identify and respond to needs, building on strengths and ensuring that analysis is robust and leads to clear outcomes that can be met through SMART targets, including Brief Enquiries (age assessment), Full Merton Compliant Age assessments and Human Rights assessments.
  • Develop effective and empowering relationships, engaging with children, young people, and their families, to facilitate change and improve outcomes.
  • Produce child‑focused reports and plans for a variety of forums, including court.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualified Social Worker with a Social Work England registration.
  • Experience in working with unaccompanied asylum‑seeking children, including completing Age Assessments.
  • Ability to work from a variety of locations and travel countywide, and out of county, independently.
  • Confidence and dynamic approach with a commitment to the child’s voice at the heart of all work.
