About the Role
Herefordshire Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker for the Family Help – South Locality team. The role involves working closely with children, families, and partner agencies to provide support and intervention services aimed at promoting wellbeing, safety, and positive outcomes for children with a Family Help plan.
Key responsibilities include safeguarding children, collaborating with the Multi‑Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT), managing a complex caseload, leading and contributing to key meetings (e.g., Child in Need, core group, strategy discussions), conducting risk assessments, delivering protective interventions, building restorative relationships, maintaining accurate records and reports, and contributing to decision‑making.
Qualifications
• Qualified Social Worker (Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent) with current Social Work England registration.• Experience working with children and families in a statutory social care setting.• Solid knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and relevant legislation (Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together 2026, Families First Programme).• Strong risk assessment, complex family dynamics analysis, and effective intervention skills.• Skilled communicator, empathic, building trusted relationships with children, families, and multi‑agency professionals.• Organised, resilient, and able to manage a demanding workload while producing high‑quality reports.• Proficient in IT systems and commitment to continuous professional development.
Benefits & Compensation
- Salary range: £36,363 – £40,777 per annum
- Market rate supplement: £5,000 per annum
- Welcome payment: £10,000 (see guidance)
- Retention payment: £2,000 – £4,000 depending on team
