Position Overview
Responsible for all shift-based activities, including out-of-hours on‑call and call‑out duties. Provides a broad base of engineering skills for effective technical support and maintenance of the facility. Ensures existing and new mechanical installations meet site standards and specifications. Maintains the Deeside plant equipment, manages small to medium-size projects, and leads or participates in Facilities, Engineering, and EHS activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Scheduling repairs, renovation projects, waste reduction improvements, and safety inspections.
- Planning budgets and schedules for facility modifications, including cost estimates for equipment, labor, and materials.
- Negotiating with external vendors and contractors for supplies, repairs, and capital purchases.
- Overseeing services related to electrical, mechanical, hydraulics, carpentry, masonry, and other maintenance tasks.
- Ensuring compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and operating requirements.
- Conducting periodic inspections to determine maintenance work required.
- Managing the design, planning, construction, and maintenance of equipment, machinery, buildings, and other facilities.
- Implementing preventive maintenance (PM) programs to assure compliance with QA/QC, GMP, FDA, change control, EHS, and FM standards.
- Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities.
- Leading continuous improvement projects to enhance equipment performance and deliver cost savings.
- Providing support to site-wide projects and ensuring alignment with legal, corporate, and site legislation.
- Raising orders and approving invoices via SAP.
Skills & Experience
- Maintenance & installation experience across a broad range of services & facilities in a manufacturing/engineering environment.
- Ability to work flexibly, providing guidance to contractors & lower‑level employees.
- Knowledge of permit‑to‑work systems and related safety controls.
- Proficiency in analyzing technical problems & developing appropriate solutions.
- Experience with project & time‑management, including planning & meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with plant functions, mechanical, electrical & control systems.
- Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings; perform fault diagnosis, testing & inspection of electrical systems.
- Experience in developing & implementing new systems, procedures & practices within a production/maintenance setting.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
Qualifications / Education
- Recognised qualification in mechanical engineering or equivalent apprenticeship with relevant experience.
- Understanding of clean‑room or controlled‑environment controls (HVAC, humidity, pressure, etc.).
- Working knowledge of plant functions and maintenance.
- PC skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of MS Project and CAD.
- Demonstrated expertise in fault finding & problem solving.
Working Conditions
Site-based role within a manufacturing and packaging environment, including clean-room and plant-room areas. Standard work week Monday–Friday with double-day shifts (6am‑2pm / 1pm‑9pm). On-call rota for facilities-based issues outside core hours. Requires occasional out-of-hours and weekend work.
