Maintenance Assistant

As a Maintenance Assistant at Sodexo, you will be the key technical expert for the hospital estate, ensuring that all building, mechanical and electrical systems are maintained to the highest standards.

What You’ll Do

• Carry out planned maintenance across building, mechanical and electrical systems in line with regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
• Support Engineering Management to meet contractual response times and produce required reports.
• Assist with annual statutory maintenance programmes, including shutdown works.
• Review and validate test results, ensuring compliance with current guidance and Authorising Engineer (AE) recommendations.
• Ensure safe operation, maintenance and repair of all plant and equipment across the hospital site.
• Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance services, including out‑of‑hours support.
• Maintain compliance with contractual, legislative, statutory and HTM requirements, supporting Health & Safety standards.
• Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders, including helpdesk and clinical staff, ensuring effective communication and timely completion of work.
• Comply with all health and safety, hygiene and statutory regulations, including COSHH and fire safety.
• Promote and maintain a safe, clean and efficient environment for patients, visitors and staff.

• Confident and capable of assessing situations and making sound decisions.
• Self‑motivated, adaptable and able to manage changing priorities effectively.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with a logical and practical approach.
• Calm and effective under pressure, with a clear understanding of urgency.
• Good knowledge of Health & Safety principles and safe working practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and basic maths.
• IT literate, willing to undertake training, and open to overtime when required.
• Experience in a maintenance/engineering environment, ideally within healthcare, with additional specialist knowledge where applicable.
• Excellent time management, teamwork and communication skills.
• A positive initiative‑taking approach, able to work independently or as part of a team.

Job Details

• 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30).
• £15.29 per hour.
• Uniform provided; access to Blue Light Card and Sodexo benefits.
• 20 days holiday per year plus bank holidays.
• Location: Royal Stoke Hospital.
