Job Title: Residential Support Worker – Children’s Services

Location: Totton

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000 + sleep-ins

Contract Type: Full time – (Days, Evenings, Weekends, Bank Holidays)

Requirements

  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Must be able to work long shifts, including evenings and weekends
  • Previous experience working with children or in a residential care setting is desirable
  • Willingness to work towards Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (if not already held)

About the role

As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a key role in providing consistent, high-quality care in a children’s residential setting. You’ll help create a safe, stable, and supportive home environment that enables young people to thrive emotionally, socially, and practically.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting children with daily routines such as cooking, cleaning, and personal care
  • Building positive relationships and acting as a key worker
  • Encouraging engagement in education, activities, and community life
  • Attending appointments and supporting young people in developing independence
  • Managing challenging behaviours and responding effectively in crisis situations (training provided)
  • Promoting safeguarding and emotional wellbeing at all times

Skills

  • 6–12 months’ experience in a care environment (children or adults)
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Empathetic, resilient, and trustworthy
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team and independently
  • Comfortable using computers and recording systems
  • Willing to actively participate in activities with children in and outside the home
