General Overview

Equans provide technical and soft services to our client HMCTS across a large portfolio of buildings across the UK. As part of the service, we provide low voltage electrical maintenance and installation services, and because of business growth, we are recruiting for additional roles to provide these services for our customer.

Main Responsibilities

  • Inspect/repair floor, walls, ceilings and roofs
  • Inspect/repair free standing and fitted furniture
  • Inspect/clear drainage and gully systems
  • Inspect/repair doors (including Fire Doors), windows and associated furniture
  • Legionella duties – tap temperatures and flushing
  • Painting, re‑decorating and hanging of pictures/signed/notices
  • Plantroom inspections and AHU filter changes
  • Reactive repairs and initial attendance for toilets, leaks and blockages
  • Assist engineering staff in a wide range of duties as required
  • Carry out reactive / ad‑hoc activities – being the first response on site, and where appropriate taking immediate action to make safe
  • External litter picking
  • Flat roof cleaning, including gullies and drains
  • Basic general grounds maintenance tasks
  • Ensure that reactive tasks throughout the sites are completed and be proactive in highlighting areas where improvements can be made
  • Ensure that suitable consumables are available to carry out both maintenance and reactive works, and to provide parts lists and estimated timescales to carry out remedial works
  • Ensure that all relevant paperwork/CAFM is completed regarding planned and reactive activities and that it is passed without delay to the contract administrator
  • Ensure that Method Statements and Risk Assessments are prepared and used for all tasks undertaken to ensure safe working practices
  • Develop a good working relationship with all members of Equans staff, subcontractors and the client representatives
  • Provide a safe and healthy working environment, including wearing of uniform and PPE
  • Present a professional image of Equans to clients at all times
  • Keep all plant rooms under the responsibility of Equans clean and tidy
  • Supervise and monitor subcontractor works when they are on site carrying out associated fabric tasks
  • Arrange and provide holiday and sickness cover at short notice and be flexible in working patterns
  • Undertake lone working when and where required, subject to passing satisfactory training
  • Action and complete assigned tasks appropriately
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with contractual KPI’s/SLA’s
  • Keep CAFM system, e.g. Maximo, up to date and close out PPM and reactive tickets with accurate data captured
  • Carry out any other task as directed by the account management team

Client / Customer

  • Respond in a timely manner to verbal and written requests
  • Produce information for quotations

Helpdesk – PPM

  • Support the Helpdesk as required when reporting or updating planned and reactive activities
  • Be available for out of hours call‑out support for the contract if required

Compliance

  • Gain Technical Appointments as required e.g. LVCP and Water Hygiene CP to permit lamp changing and L8 activities such as tap flushing
  • Produce Condition / Dilapidation Reports as required for fabric assets
  • Inform supervisor immediately if dangerous circumstances occur

SHEQ

  • Comply with requests for information from SHEQ manager
  • Work to company health and safety policy
  • Ensure PPE is safe to use
  • Report accidents and near misses in a timely manner
  • Ensure test equipment is within calibration
  • Follow Method Statements & Risk Assessments for all works

Impact

Working to high standard of service, we require a fully reliable and competent Handyman/Fabric Tech who can work on own initiative, within a team or oversee subcontractor’s, producing good quality reports on their findings and work. The role will involve being the face of EQUANS so smart appearance and ability to discuss findings with others including customers is required.

Complexity

The successful candidate will have the ability to work unaided and build rapport with end users and customers, promoting EQUANS’ values. Excellent knowledge of carpentry, plumbing and/or painting/decorating techniques, eye for detail, and consciousness of quality standards is expected.

Qualifications or Required Experience

Qualifications

Desirable to have an NVQ (or similar) in one of the below –

Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in either carpentry, painting, plumbing or flooring in a construction, repair or maintenance environment
  • Good knowledge of Fire Door maintenance and inspection techniques
  • Understanding of Legionella control techniques e.g. tap flushing
