Learning Support Assistant

Location: Portsmouth

Working Hours: Full-time (8:30am – 3:30pm)

Pay: £462.80 – £475 per week

Start Date: September (Long term – with potential to become permanent for the right candidate)

About the School & Role

In this role you will be working as a Learning Support Assistant in a specialist primary setting, supporting children with complex learning needs, including autism, in a structured and nurturing environment. The school provides personalised, inclusive education for pupils aged 5-11, with a strong focus on communication, independence and emotional wellbeing. You will work closely with teachers to deliver tailored learning activities, support pupils on a one-to-one and small group basis, and help implement individual education and behaviour plans. Daily responsibilities include adapting resources to meet a range of needs, using visual and sensory strategies, supporting communication development, and assisting pupils with transitions throughout the day. You will also help manage behaviour in a calm, consistent manner, encourage positive interactions, and provide emotional reassurance, playing a key role in creating a safe and engaging environment where every child can learn and thrive.
