We’re looking for a Maintenance Operative to join the Port and Harbour team in Ramsgate, supporting the upkeep and repair of essential maritime infrastructure.
This is not a desk job – you’ll be on the water, on the quay, and in the workshop, helping maintain and repair everything from pontoons to navigation aids.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Maintaining pontoons, fenders, ladders, handrails, walkways, fencing, and other harbour assets
- Workshop fabrication using wood, metal, fibreglass and basic plumbing
- Supporting buoy and navigation aid maintenance
- Assisting with electrical installations alongside engineers
- Using tools, plant, and forklifts (up to 5 tonnes) for maintenance tasks
- Reporting faults and keeping accurate maintenance records
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Must-Haves:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Strong hands‑on skills in carpentry, maintenance, construction, or fabrication
- Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, flexible, and team‑oriented
Desirable:
- Welding, cutting, or grinding skills
- Forklift Licence (B1 – up to 5 tonnes) – desirable
- Familiar with slinging/banksman, MEWP, P ASMA or scaffold systems
- Manual handling and abrasive wheels training
- Powerboat Level 2 or Basic Sea Survival certification
- Electrical/plumbing experience
