We are looking for an enthusiastic and community-focused Grassroots Community Garden Support Worker to join our team at Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum (NNRF).
This role plays a vital part in supporting refugees and people seeking asylum to engage in our volunteer-led Grassroots Community Garden Project. The project helps our volunteers by taking responsibility for planning, developing and maintaining a large while contributing fresh produce for our community café.
Your main duties will include:
- Developing and coordinating a Steering Group of clients and community garden volunteers
- Supporting clients to take an active role in planning and developing the project
- Coordinating volunteer rotas to ensure the effective maintenance and development of the allotment site
- Supporting volunteers to develop gardening skills and confidence, particularly those with less experience
- Developing the garden as a resource that promotes positive mental health and wellbeing
- Ensuring health and safety standards are maintained across the project
- Organising community gardening events and activities
- Producing simple monitoring and evaluation reports to demonstrate project impact
- Assisting with the preparation of funding applications to support future developments of the garden
- Representing NNRF at relevant meetings, networks and partnership events
- Working collaboratively with colleagues to support wider organisational activities and events
About you
- At least one year’s experience developing and maintaining a garden or allotment
- At least one year’s experience working with volunteers
- Experience facilitating group activities or events
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work flexibly and adapt to changing circumstances
- Sensitive and inclusive approach when working with diverse communities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Hours: 15 hours per week
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract (extension subject to funding)
