Maintenance Assistant

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust Estates & Facilities are looking to recruit a Maintenance Assistant who has a good understanding of Building, Electrical and Plumbing maintenance. Main duties of the job
Assist the Maintenance Craftsperson (in all disciplines) in duties instructed by the Team Manager, working under the supervision of the Maintenance Craftsperson.
Undertake unsupervised routine maintenance and minor repair work that does not warrant the attention of a fully qualified craftsman, related to your training and/or experience.
Assist other trades as required by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Use all relevant tools and equipment.
Maintain the workshops, stores, switch-rooms, boiler-house, plant-rooms and surrounding areas clean and tidy as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Comply with all statutory regulations, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
Be able to work overtime at short notice if required, depending on the needs of the Trust.
Ensure that all policies and procedures laid down by the Trust are strictly complied with and assist higher skill grades on new work and reactive calls.
Demonstrate a basic knowledge of workshop safety practices.
Undertake statutory planned, reactive maintenance tasks and inspections.
Undertake training as necessary to ensure the knowledge and skills base is maintained and developed to meet the requirements of current and future services and changes in legislation.

Person Specification
Experience
- Basic understanding of construction, building engineering techniques.
- Good understanding of tools and equipment used in maintenance activities.
- Experience working within a similar environment.
- Experience working in an acute or non-acute hospital environment.
- Working knowledge of health and safety.
