We’re recruiting a Maintenance Steward to join our team at our beautiful Burford site in the Cotswolds.
This is a varied and hands‑on role where you will play a key part in ensuring the site remains safe, clean and fully operational. If you enjoy practical work and take pride in making a visible difference every day, this could be the role for you.

As a Maintenance Steward, you will support the smooth running of the site through a mix of maintenance, housekeeping and groundskeeping responsibilities.
- Carry out planned and reactive repairs across the site
- Maintain buildings, facilities, equipment and work areas to a high standard
- Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements at all times
- Identify and resolve non-routine maintenance issues promptly
- Support servicing and upkeep of vehicles and equipment
- Maintain clean, safe and organised operational areas
- Assist with unloading and handling deliveries where required
- Support the induction and training of new team members
- Accurately document work completed to support compliance and standards
This role is based on site in Burford and is a full‑time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. There may occasionally be a need to work outside of these hours.
About you
The ideal candidate will take pride in their work, maintaining our centres to the highest standards while providing support across all activities. You’ll be skilled in planning ahead, prioritising tasks, and collaborating with all departments to ensure the centres are fully prepared for events. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you’ll be communicating with a diverse range of people across the site, ensuring smooth coordination and effective teamwork. Flexibility and empathy are key, as you’ll be working closely with both people and animals, always maintaining a professional and courteous demeanour.
Knowledge, skills, and experience
- Full driving licence
- Previous gardening or grounds maintenance experience
- Experience of handyman/general maintenance work
- Basic vehicle maintenance
- Demonstrate good communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience of grass mowers and maintaining grounds equipment
- Basic computer and administration skillsDemonstrate safe handling and lifting methods
Although not essential, it would be great if you also had:
- Managing/monitoring Health and Safety aspects of the workplace
- Experience in animal care
- Some working knowledge of managing and maintaining land facilities
- LANTRA Qualification for operating gardening equipment
- Experience in supervising volunteers
- Experience of towing trailers or larger vehicles
- Experience of driving tractor and loader (ideally holding current competency certificate)
- Standard compliance testing experience
