Overview
Customer Service Underwriter – hybrid working – based in York, starting 14 September 2026. Salary £25,000 + up to 10% annual bonus.
About the role
As a Customer Service Underwriter, you will work in a fast‑paced, telephone‑based environment, assessing risk and making decisions that protect our customers. You will receive comprehensive training and support, and after the 6‑month probation you may work up to 80% from home while remaining connected in the office.
Responsibilities
- Review customer information and determine appropriate coverage.
- Communicate decisions clearly to NFU Mutual agencies and customers.
- Assist with risk evaluation and documentation.
- Participate in training sessions and shadowing experienced colleagues.
- Maintain accurate records and comply with company policies.
Qualifications and Skills
- Customer focus – recent experience in a customer‑facing phone role.
- Communication and teamwork – build rapport and adapt communication style.
- Critical thinking and problem solving – logical decision making.
- Learning mindset – curiosity and openness to feedback.
- Resilience and time management – manage priorities under pressure.
- Insurance experience is desirable but not required.
