Job Description and Person Specification
Do you want a hands‑on job where no two days are the same? Join our solid team to help keep our places safe, tidy and working like they should.
We’re looking for someone reliable, friendly and proactive — someone who takes pride in keeping our college site safe, well‑maintained and running smoothly. Got experience in maintenance, caretaking or facilities work? Brilliant. If not, bring the right attitude and we’ll support you with the rest…
Join the team that keeps our Barnstaple campus welcoming, safe and functional for staff, students and visitors. Your role will include:
Responsibilities
- Opening and closing buildings as part of a shared rota
- Acting as a key holder and responding to alarm activations when required
- Completing regular inspections of buildings, grounds, vehicles and equipment
- Undertaking repairs, basic maintenance and reporting issues needing specialist contractors
- Supporting heating, water and plant systems to ensure smooth daily operation
- Managing deliveries, moving equipment and transporting items between sites
- Maintaining the appearance of buildings and grounds — including painting, tidying and minor repairs
- Setting up rooms for exams, events and meetings
- Winter gritting and snow clearance
- Car park marshalling for large events
- Helping with cleaning tasks when needed
- Keeping facilities areas clean, tidy and safe …all with a helpful, flexible ‘can‑do’ attitude
This is a full‑time, permanent role. From time to time, some evenings and occasional weekend work may be required, depending on college needs.
A full, clean driving licence is essential, as you’ll sometimes drive college vehicles.
We’ll give you incredibly generous holidays and a superb pension scheme. You’ll also have access to a fantastic package of benefits — including wellbeing support, staff discounts, cycle‑to‑work scheme, and subsidised on‑site parking.
