We’re recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and professional facilities team in Midlothian. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to work across building maintenance, site upkeep, compliance checks, and general facilities support.
The Role
As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and service users.
- Carry out basic building maintenance and minor repairs
- Replace lighting and undertake routine maintenance tasks
- Support the upkeep of external areas, including grounds, pathways, and parking facilities
- Conduct routine compliance checks and record results
- Assist with fire safety and emergency system inspections
- Monitor water systems and carry out scheduled testing
- Respond to maintenance requests and facilities‑related issues
- Support contractors and service providers when on site
- Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or building services
- Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs
- Experience working in a busy customer‑focused environment
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
- A Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)
Experience within schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing, or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
