Location: Midlothian

Salary: up to £31,000

Full UK Driving Licence Required

Are you a hands‑on Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, Caretaker, or Estates Assistant looking for your next opportunity?

We’re recruiting for a Facilities Assistant to join a busy and professional facilities team in Midlothian. This is a varied role where no two days are the same, offering the chance to work across building maintenance, site upkeep, compliance checks, and general facilities support.

The Role

As a Facilities Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring buildings and grounds are maintained to a high standard, providing a safe and welcoming environment for staff, visitors, and service users.

  • Carry out basic building maintenance and minor repairs
  • Replace lighting and undertake routine maintenance tasks
  • Support the upkeep of external areas, including grounds, pathways, and parking facilities
  • Conduct routine compliance checks and record results
  • Assist with fire safety and emergency system inspections
  • Monitor water systems and carry out scheduled testing
  • Respond to maintenance requests and facilities‑related issues
  • Support contractors and service providers when on site
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience in facilities, maintenance, caretaking, estates, or building services
  • Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs
  • Experience working in a busy customer‑focused environment
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email systems
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to work independently and manage your workload effectively
  • A Full UK Driving Licence (Essential)

Experience within schools, public sector buildings, healthcare, housing, or commercial facilities would be advantageous.
