What You’ll Be Doing

As an Apprentice Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will play an important role in creating and maintaining high‑quality outdoor spaces for our customers. Working alongside experienced colleagues, you will learn practical landscaping skills and deliver exceptional service every day.

Your Apprenticeship Journey Could Include

  • Maintaining outdoor spaces to a high standard, including grass, planting areas, and landscaped environments.
  • Using a range of grounds maintenance equipment including mowers, strimmers, leaf blowers, hedge cutters, and hand tools.
  • Supporting seasonal tasks such as pruning, planting, and general site upkeep.
  • Learning safe and effective ways to manage weeds and pests, including pesticide application once qualified.
  • Keeping work areas clean, safe, and well‑maintained.
  • Using digital systems to record completed work and report any issues.
  • Following health, safety, environmental, and quality standards at all times.
  • Learning about sustainable working practices and how we reduce our environmental impact.
  • Working collaboratively as part of a team to deliver great results for our customers.

Your Apprenticeship

You will complete a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscaping Apprenticeship over 24 months, supported by a dedicated Skills Coach who will help you build knowledge, complete learning, and develop practical skills.

Your Training Will Include

  • Hands‑on workplace experience.
  • Off‑the‑job learning through college, online learning, or training sessions.
  • Development of practical landscaping and horticultural skills.
  • Emergency first aid training.
  • Safe use and handling of pesticides (where required).

To Succeed As a Mitie Apprentice, You’ll Need

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent)—if you do not currently hold these, we can help you work towards them.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • An interest in outdoor work and developing practical skills.
  • Confidence using (or willingness to learn) mechanical equipment and hand tools.
  • Reliability and a proactive approach.
