This is an exciting opportunity for a maternity care assistant to workin our antenatal outpatient clinic. We are looking for a reliable, dynamic anddriven individual to join our team on a permanent, part time, basis. You willbe supported and welcomed into your role and we are keen to develop our staffto deliver exceptional care to the families of County Durham and Darlington. Main duties of the job

The role of the Maternity Care Assistant in antenatal outpatientsinvolves supporting the day to day running of the clinic, providing a widerange of care and support to our birthing people, supporting members of themidwifery and multidisciplinary team, administrative duties and housekeeping.

About us

You must be able to produce ALL certificates stated essential in the person specification or you will not be able to complete pre-employment checks.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites – Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients’ homes.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for anenthusiastic and hard-working Maternity Support Worker who is committed andpassionate in providing care during pregnancy. This important role will includecaring for women, birthing people and their families throughout the antenatalperiod and will include working alongside the midwifery team to provideeducation, support and care to birthing people in the Antenatal Clinic setting.Safety of our women and babies is paramount, and so we are looking for acaring, compassionate, and enthusiastic staff member to join our Team.

Key skills required includebeing a good team player, committed, kind, approachable, dependable andreliable. Practical skills would include experience taking observations andvenepuncture skills. An understanding of the key public health messages aroundsmoking, health lifestyle in pregnancy and infant feeding knowledge would bedesirable.

We are looking forstaff members who are keen to develop their skills and knowledge and who arecommitted to quality and improvement in care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Care Certificate or willingness to complete within the first 6 months of commencement in post.
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
  • Previous experience in a maternity setting. HCA experience within an NHS setting. Ability to carry out clinical observations, recognising and reporting deviations from the norm

Special Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent communication. Proven ability to work effectively independently and within a team. Approachable and able to build relationships with a wide variety of colleagues.
  • An understanding of the key public health messages around smoking, health lifestyle in pregnancy and infant feeding knowledge would be desirable

  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of this post
