Mechanical Maintainer – Bioresources (Shropshire)

As a Mechanical Maintainer for Area 1, you will be a key member of an engaged and high performing team in sludge treatment, renewable energy generation and the production of high quality biosolids. Your work will help Severn Trent deliver on its carbon reduction commitments and maintain strong relationships with the agricultural community.

The Bioresources Operational Team operates, maintains, and optimises sludge treatment sites across the Severn Trent region, and maximises green energy generation through the production of biomethane gas and electricity. The team also ensures the production of a high‑quality product of biosolids in adherence to the accredited Biosolids Assurance Scheme and Farming Rules for Water.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain and repair mechanical equipment across Bioresources sites, including pumps, compressors, dosing systems, motors, gearboxes and more.
  • Perform hands‑on tasks such as fabrication, welding, lubrication and operate workshop machinery such as lathes and drill presses.
  • Diagnose faults, perform inspections and update technical drawings using tools like Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA).
  • Take ownership of maintenance tasks from ordering parts to installing assets, and support the design and build of new processes.
  • Monitor treatment systems using SCADA, respond to alarms, and ensure compliance with lifting operations and safety regulations.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, proactively solving problems and driving continuous improvement.
  • Manage contractors and suppliers, maintaining strong communication and collaboration.
  • Use IT tools such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint to maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Adhere to health and safety procedures in high‑risk environments.
  • Participate in a standby rota (details provided during recruitment).
  • Maintain sites across Area 1: Barnhurst, Monkmoor, Rushmoor and Coalport.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical background with experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to understand how things work and why, with a willingness to investigate and solve problems.
  • Experience with SCADA, hydraulic, pneumatic or electromechanical systems desirable.
  • Knowledge of health and safety in high‑risk environments.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams.
  • Willingness to learn and develop through structured competency framework.
