Behavioural Support Assistant | SEMH & Mentorship | Local Secondary Schools

Job Details

  • Position: Full-Time, Long-Term (Term Time Only)
  • Salary: £92.56 – £95 per day (Weekly Pay – dependent on experience)
  • Start Date: Immediate / Next Term
  • Schedule: Approx. 8:30 am – 3:30 pm, no take-home work

Your Role as a Behavioural Mentor

  • Act as a stabiliser in the classroom, help students regulate emotions and remain engaged.
  • Recognise triggers and apply low-level de-escalation techniques to prevent disruptions.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentorship to build rapport, improve social skills, and boost self-esteem.
  • Support the Inclusion or “Bridge” unit, offering a safe space for students who find the mainstream environment overwhelming.
  • Collaborate with SENCO and Pastoral Leads to implement individual behaviour plans (IBPs).

Essential Requirements

  • Resilient, patient with a thick skin and empathy; understand that “behaviour is communication.”
  • Relevant experience from PRU, youth work, sports coaching, residential care, psychology, police/military, or similar.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build trust with hard-to-reach teenagers while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Committed to safeguarding: hold or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS.
  • Dedication to child welfare and safeguarding.
