Seasonal Operator – Rutherglen

About the Role

GB Railfreight is seeking highly motivated individuals for seasonal operator positions on a fixed-term contract until 20th December. This role provides operational experience in a safety‑critical environment and exposure to various departments.

Responsibilities

• Operate Rail Head Treatment Trains (RHTTs) safely and efficiently during the autumn leaf‑fall season.
• Maintain locomotive cleaning, sanding and readiness to keep the depot maintained.
• Adhere to safety practices at all times and comply with safety procedures.
• Support varied shift patterns, including working at all hours and being available for overtime.
• Conduct basic fault finding, reporting and rectification as required.
• Maintain concentration during long periods of operation.
• Adapt to changing scenarios with perseverance and flexibility.

Qualifications

• UK full driver’s licence (manual) with no disqualifications.
• Successful completion of a pre‑employment railway standard medical and ability to pass the industry standard medical.
• Residence within 45 minutes of the depot.
• Availability to start in August or September.
• Basic mechanical/technical understanding and ability to follow prescribed processes.
• Strong work ethic, safety consciousness and the ability to sustain concentration for long periods.
