Design Coordinator – Interiors / Fit‑Out

Location: Central London – EC4 (hybrid)

Contract: Freelance / Contract; Duration: 6 month assignment

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading UK interiors and fit‑out contractor to appoint an experienced Design Coordinator to support the management and delivery of design information across live Design & Build projects. This role would suit someone from an Architectural or Interior Design background who has moved into (or is looking to strengthen their experience in) design coordination within a main contractor or specialist fit‑out subcontractor environment. You will play a key role in ensuring design information is coordinated, compliant, and issued in line with programme and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support design review workshops with consultants and subcontractor design teams, ensuring clarity of technical submissions and design intent
  • Lead design team meetings, coordinating inputs from consultants and subcontractor designers
  • Assist with the production and management of design programmes, ensuring alignment with construction activities and statutory requirements
  • Manage and control contract specifications, drawings, and design documentation
  • Provide technical and design support to Design Managers and Project Management teams
  • Support the technical review of proposed works, including the ability to read, interpret, and challenge drawings and technical specifications
  • Submit and manage design information via Procore (Submittals) to the client team
  • Ensure design deliverables comply with relevant legislation, standards, and project requirements

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Architecture, Design Management, Interior Design, or a related discipline
  • Experience in a Design Coordinator or architectural/design-based role
  • Proven experience working on Design & Build construction projects
  • Strong technical understanding and ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficient in Revit (essential) together with good understanding of BIM and COBie procedures
  • Experience using design and coordination software
  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative, customer‑focused approach
