Level 3 Learning Support Assistant

We are currently seeking a resilient, committed, and experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to support learners within a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people who require additional support to engage in education and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small group support to pupils with challenging behaviour and additional learning needs.
• Build positive, professional relationships with learners to promote engagement and progress.
• Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and individual support plans.
• Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting activities to meet individual needs.
• Encourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and personal development.
• Contribute to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with children or young people who display challenging behaviour.
• Background in one or more of the following: Youth Work, Social Work, Learning Support Assistant (LSA), Teaching Assistant roles, Residential Care, Behaviour Support, Alternative Provision settings.
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.

Desirable

• Previous experience working within a PRU, Alternative Provision, or specialist setting.
• Team Teach or other positive handling/de‑escalation training.
• Understanding of trauma‑informed practice and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).
