What we are looking for:

  • Permanent and contract opportunities available
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential) – WITH 6 POINTS OR LESS. Driver checks will be completed

  • Experience carrying out condition surveys, defect identification and reporting
  • Knowledge of carriageway, footway and cycleway asset types and common defects
  • Ability to work on live carriageway with an understanding of site safety and TM

Licence/Certifications required:

***YOU MUST HAVE A CURRENT CSCS CARD OR PROOF OF APPLICATION FOR ONE***

  • CSCS Green card minimum
  • Streetworks operative or supervisor certification – desirable
  • SMSTS or SSSTS – desirable
  • Relevant surveying or inspection training (e.g. HAUC, NEBOSH, highways inspection courses) – desirable
  • Traffic management or banksman accreditation – desirable

Work locations include:

  • West Midlands
  • North West

Multiple vacancies are available for Highway Maintenance Surveyors to join our mobile teams covering the West Midlands through to the North West. This is a field-based role requiring travel between sites and regular liaison with supervisors and clients.

Location: Mobile worker – on the road

Key responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine and reactive highway condition surveys, recording defects and assessing severity
  • Inspect carriageways, footways, cycleways, verges and associated highway assets to identify hazards and maintenance needs
  • Prepare clear, accurate survey records, photographs and defect reports using company systems and paperwork
  • Support programming of repair works by providing measured surveys, setting out priorities and liaising with supervisors
  • Ensure site safety by following traffic management plans and working with traffic marshals where required
  • Complete pre-start checks, daily records and permit documentation as required
  • Provide technical input to supervisors and clients on defect resolution, reinstatement standards and quality requirements
  • Assist with site set up and occasional hand-finishing or small repair tasks where necessary
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, method statements and quality procedures at all times

Person specification:

  • Proven experience in highways inspection, surveying or maintenance roles
  • Good technical knowledge of common highway defects, materials and repair techniques
  • Competent with mobile data capture, photography and basic surveying tools
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills with a methodical approach
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently across multiple sites
  • High focus on health & safety and adherence to site procedures
  • Flexible to work varying shifts, weekends and overtime where required
