About The Role Balfour Beatty are looking for a Compliance Coordinator to join our HR Shared Services Team based at Quorum Business Park in Newcastle upon Tyne. This is a part time role, working 22.5 hours per week, the working pattern is Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The HR Shared Services team is critical to our people. The HR Compliance Coordinator supports the organisation’s HR compliance activities by ensuring employee data, vetting, immigration, and audit requirements are managed accurately, securely, and in line with legal and regulatory standards. The role works closely with HR, Legal, and Operational teams to reduce risk and maintain compliance.

What you’ll be doing

Responsibilities

  • Log, track, and manage Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) in line with GDPR and internal policies
  • Gather information from HR systems and relevant stakeholders within statutory timeframes
  • Ensure personal data is handled securely, accurately, and confidentially
  • Maintain clear records of requests, responses, and outcomes

Audit & Compliance Evidence

  • Prepare, collate, and maintain audit evidence for internal and external audits
  • Respond to audit queries and provide supporting documentation within agreed deadlines
  • Ensure HR records are complete, up to date, and audit‑ready
  • Support continuous improvement of compliance processes and controls

Compliance Monthly Checks

  • Coordinate and monitor pre‑employment screening, including right‑to‑work, DBS (where applicable), references, and background checks
  • Track completion of vetting checks and follow up on outstanding items
  • Escalate risks or non‑compliance issues appropriately
  • Maintain accurate vetting records in HR systems
  • Perform monthly checks on core HR processes and close out any gaps

General HR Compliance Support

  • Maintain HR data accuracy across systems
  • Support policy implementation and compliance reporting
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion at all times
  • Respond to compliance‑related queries from HR and the wider business

Who we’re looking for

Essential

  • Experience in HR administration, HR compliance, or a similar role
  • Good understanding of GDPR and handling personal data
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information
  • Organised, methodical, and able to manage multiple deadlines
  • Confident using HR systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)

Desirable

  • Experience handling DSARs
  • Knowledge of UK right‑to‑work and immigration requirements
  • Experience supporting audits or regulatory reviews
