Support Worker

Are you an innovative, creative, motivated caring professional who is looking for a new challenge? We have an exciting opportunity to join our well‑established Intellectual Disability (ID) CAMHS service.

As a Support Worker you will support clinical staff with patients who may present behaviours that challenge and/or significant mental health needs. You will help provide person‑centred, evidence‑based interventions to support the child, their parents/carers and the multi‑agency team, with regular clinical and peer supervision.

The role is part time, fixed‑term for 12 months, based at Marvin House in Dorchester. It involves working at the facility and reviewing/monitoring patients in their homes and other community settings. A valid driving licence and use of a car are required. Flexible working arrangements are available where service needs allow.

Main duties

  • Provide therapeutic practical help, support and guidance to children, young people, families and carers.
  • Work as a member of the ID CAMHS Team to deliver an evidence‑based service.
  • Assist in the delivery and implementation of care plans under the direction of the therapeutic team.
  • Support colleagues with evidence‑based interventions and undertake service audits as required.
  • Assist in health need assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care (including risk assessment) for individuals and groups of children, their families and carers.

Person Specification

Knowledge, Skills and Training

  • Good standard or general education.

Job Specific experience

  • Demonstrated understanding of a total communication approach and communication systems for young people with intellectual disabilities.
  • Understanding of principles of the sensory integration approach.
  • Ability to act calmly in emergencies and respond professionally to stressful, challenging situations.
  • Basic understanding of behavioural assessment and intervention, supported by the team.
  • Previous experience in a community intellectual disability setting.

Information Technology

  • Basic IT keyboard skills.

Personal Attributes

  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Self‑motivated.
