Job Overview
Do you have a passion for women’s health and supporting women, their babies and families throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period? We are looking for candidates who are prepared to work a variety of shifts including nights, weekends and bank holidays. No two days are the same in maternity, and we provide a 24 hour, 365 day a year service. Roles are available across Labour Ward, Maternity Triage, Haven Birthing Centre, Community, and Antenatal Clinic. Applicants can state a preference during interview, but roles will be offered based upon clinical need.
Base Location: Cross-site (Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals and working in the community)

Main Duties
Main duties include providing kind and compassionate care, clinical observations, infant feeding, mental health and wellbeing support, housekeeping duties. For community duties you would need access to your own transport and will be supporting midwives to care for women and babies in their own homes and/or in designated clinics of which all training will be given. In the hospital setting you will be a team player, working independently within scope of job and supported by a wonderful maternity team.
Staff recruited are expected to be available to work flexibly across all our Trust locations to meet service demands.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Good standard of numeracy and literacy
- Completed care certificate or willingness to undertake and complete within 12 weeks of joining the department
- Completion of a competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational level 3
- Short courses to undertake patient and clinical care duties
Experience
- Ability to adapt and learn in a health care environment
- Previous experience of working within maternity or a similar setting within the NHS
- Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience of working with the public
- Previous experience of working within a care environment/NHS
Skills
- IT literate
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively (to understand and be understood)
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as on own initiative
- An understanding around basic patient care
- Ability to exchange factual information accurately
- Venepuncture and cannulation
