Cancer Support Worker – SFT, Salisbury

The role involves supporting people affected by cancer to navigate the health and social care system during and after treatment. Working across services and in partnership with the multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate and facilitate non‑clinical support tailored to individual needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing emotional and practical support to patients following a cancer diagnosis, leading Holistic Needs Assessments and developing personalised care plans.
  • Identifying and addressing concerns, ensuring patients are connected with appropriate services, resources and support.
  • Acting as a single point of access for patient concerns, signposting and supporting patients individually, liaising with clinical teams for urgent or specialist needs.
  • Advising on minimising risks of further cancer‑related problems and signs of recurrence or long‑term treatment effects.
  • Ensuring patients have access to information and support to self‑manage post‑treatment where appropriate.
  • Performing administrative duties, documenting and monitoring all aspects of care coordination and service delivery.

Person Specification

Qualifications And Training

  • GCSE English and Mathematics (Grades A‑C) or equivalent.
  • NVQ4 or NVQ3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent plus additional training to diploma level equivalent or equivalent through short courses.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge and experience of a full range of administrative processes.
  • Proven NHS experience.
  • Experience of maintaining comprehensive record keeping.
  • Experience of using an NHS Patient Administration System.
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office and Windows systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate clearly and articulately.
