Position Title: EL Student Success Coordinator

Position Goal
The EL Student Success Coordinator primarily works with secondary English learners to help them be successful from entrance into high school through graduation and beyond. The EL Student Success Coordinator will provide support starting at enrollment and continuing through the students’ high school years. This position will work collaboratively with other staff to support students’ acclimation to the US, their attendance, academics and social skills. The position can support resources to help English Learners make informed decisions about their post-secondary career plans. This role requires excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for helping students achieve their academic and career goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in the area of education or a related field. Master’s Degree in School Counseling, Secondary Education or other related field preferred, but not required.
- Five years experience in education preferred.
- Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish required.
Prerequisite Skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain diverse partnerships.
- Knowledge of and ability to learn regulations of Title lll and ESL programming.
- Ability to work with all types of students and families with various needs, abilities, circumstances and home languages.
- Ability to develop working, collaborative relationships with school personnel.
- Experience and expertise in school and office technologies, such as Google and Microsoft applications.
- Ability to take initiative, manage several projects at once and meet deadlines.
- Skilled at creating and maintaining databases.
- Ability to collaborate with staff to plan and implement workshops and engagement events for students, families and community.
Essential Functions
- Work closely with administration to ensure the needs of English Learners are being met for successful school outcomes.
- Provide support to core teams with enrollment and scheduling.
- Work with the ESL Supervisor to verify student schedules are aligned with approved scheduling guidelines.
- Monitor class composition for classes in which first- and second-year students are enrolled.
- Collect and monitor credit completion plans for ELs in credit recovery, seniors and ELs over the age of 18.
- Assist with reviewing foreign transcripts for the purpose of awarding credits.
- Facilitate new student orientations for English Learners and Newcomer Armor groups focused on acclimation to US schools and the procedures of Reading High School.
- Monitor and maintain records of attendance of ELs and communication with parents about attendance concerns in collaboration with the core team.
- Maintain records of English Learners referred to the MTSS team.
- Provide support to students with behavioral concerns (including those in the Academic Success Room and/or returning from suspension and/or Alternative Placements) and collaborate with Restorative Practices Facilitators implementing restorative circles and conferences.
- Participate in professional development to stay abreast of new trends and research in supporting English Learners in a secondary setting.
- Collaborate with all departments, including, but not limited to, student services, special education, college and career center, athletics, etc. on supports for English Learners.
- Assist in the coordination and oversight of extended day and/or extended school year programs that offer supplemental academic, sociocultural and/or language instruction for English Learners.
- Collaborate with family engagement staff on family events and information sessions, including, but not limited to, college and career resources.
- Track and document daily activities related to professional responsibilities.
- Prepare reports as requested by administration.
- Performs other duties as assigned by administration.
Terms Of Employment
Full-time (12-month) position. Salary and benefits consistent with the District’s approved Compensation and Benefits Plan.
