About the role
We are seeking a creative Junior Designer to join the Transworld design team in London. The role supports a broad mix of cover projects and provides opportunities to develop the skills needed to take on your own briefs.
Key responsibilities
- Support the design team across frontlist and key ongoing titles from initial concepts through to final artwork.
- Redesign backlist titles and refresh established brands/series.
- Contribute to creative development for established series, evolving look and feel while maintaining brand consistency.
- Prepare, art‑work and supply files for print and digital formats, working accurately to schedules.
- Stay curious and up to date with design trends in publishing and beyond, bringing references and ideas into the team.
Essential criteria
- A portfolio that shows your creative potential and demonstrates strong visual ideas and a proven interest in book cover design (student, personal, freelance or passion projects are acceptable).
- Good working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, especially InDesign and Photoshop; Illustrator is a plus.
- Enthusiasm for learning, willingness to experiment, ask questions, take feedback and improve your craft.
- Collaborative mindset with clear communication; ability to work with varied perspectives.
- Attention to detail and pride in accuracy.
- Interest in books, culture, visual storytelling and how design connects with audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines, staying organized and adaptable.
- Ability to adapt to sudden changes of direction; publishing moves fast.
Preferred criteria
- Strong grasp of typography, especially combining image and type with impact.
- Experience in a creative environment (studio, in‑house, freelance, student publication, etc.).
- Skills in illustration, photography, photomanipulation or art‑working for print.
- Interest in the commercial side of design – how covers help readers find the right book.
Salary and benefits
£29,500 – £31,000, dependent on experience, plus bonus and benefits.
Location & Hybrid Working
London office – minimum of three days per week. Flexibility around where you work is recognised, and we can discuss details during the recruitment process.
