Lead Driver

Up to £35,014.98 per annum depending on experience
37.5 hours per week
Our HSSU Eastleigh team has an opportunity for a Lead Driver.
Our Hospital Sterile Services Unit transports sterile and disinfected surgical equipment to our local hospital network.
If you have a full driving licence with a C1 entitlement which allows you to drive rigid vehicles up to 7.5 tons Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) and hold a digital tachograph card, you could enjoy the benefits of joining the UK’s largest Healthcare Charity.
A full Driver Qualification card (CPC) is advantageous but full training is available.
As a Lead Driver on our HSSU team, you are comfortable with manual handling and happy to move transport trolleys weighing upwards of 250kg. You have a basic knowledge of current driver hour legislation and ideally hold a driver digital tachograph card. You’ll be a great ambassador for our unit and our customers’ first point of contact.
Responsibilities
- Act as first line manager to a team of drivers supplying disinfected and sterile medical devices to customers
- Provide induction, development, training and involvement in recruitment and performance reviews for both contracted and agency drivers
- Support the National Transport Manager in the maintenance and efficient running of delivery rotas and vehicle upkeep
- Support the Unit Manager in coordinating a team of drivers supplying decontaminated and sterile medical devices to customers
- Provide standby and emergency cover within driver hours legislation or in case of excessive sickness
- Ensure vehicle maintenance and compliance with legislative requirements
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive vehicle records for all safety compliance requirements
Qualifications
Full driving licence with C1 entitlement and ability to drive rigid vehicles up to 7.5 tons GVW.
Digital tachograph card.
Experience with manual handling of heavy trolleys (up to 250kg).
Knowledge of driver hour legislation.
