About the Role
As Caretaker, you will play a vital role in ensuring our school remains safe, secure, welcoming and fully operational. Working closely with the Site Manager, you will support the day‑to‑day management and maintenance of the academy’s buildings and grounds, helping to create an environment where students can thrive.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across the site
- Supporting health and safety compliance, inspections and record keeping
- Opening and securing the school premises and acting as a keyholder
- Monitoring building systems, plant and equipment
- Undertaking minor repairs and maintenance tasks
- Supporting site security, CCTV and contractor management
- Assisting with grounds maintenance and housekeeping duties
- Responding to emergency situations, including adverse weather events
- Supporting capital projects and improvement works across the academy
What We’re Looking For
We are seeking a practical, reliable and solution-focused individual who takes pride in maintaining high standards and contributing positively to the school community.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working in a facilities, maintenance, caretaking or premises role
- Knowledge of building maintenance and first-line repairs
- Understanding of health and safety procedures
- Good organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloads
- Competence in using ICT systems and web-based platforms
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work flexibly and respond to changing priorities
- Willingness to undertake First Aid training
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- IWFM Level 2 or equivalent qualification
- NVQ Level 2 in Caretaking
- Trade qualification in plumbing or electrical work
- Current First Aid at Work qualification
- IPAF and/or PASMA certification
- Experience working within an educational environment
