Urgent Care Assistant – Salisbury (Part-time, Out of hours)

As a result of continued growth, HealthHero is seeking to recruit one Urgent Care Assistant on a part‑time, permanent basis to undertake driving, receptionist and base duties to support the delivery of Integrated Urgent Care services across Wiltshire, Swindon and Bath and North East Somerset.

Shift patterns vary and include weekday evenings, weekends, and overnight sessions (23:00-08:00). Shift patterns and rota flexibility can be discussed at the application stage.

Job Responsibilities

The role involves dual duties of driving clinicians to patient homes and providing base reception and support. It requires working 24/7 on a rolling 4‑week rota and may involve non‑clinical support to clinicians and patients who use NHS 111 and GP Out of Hours services.

The key duties include:

Driving

  • Driving clinicians safely while adhering to current driving regulations.
  • Performing basic vehicle checks at the beginning and end of shifts to ensure roadworthiness and fuel; ensuring safe storage of medication and consumables.
  • Accurately recording all medication and consumables used while on shift.

Base

  • First point of contact for patients or carers/relatives in designated Treatment Centres.
  • Supporting clinicians during shifts.
  • Communicating with patients in person and via telephone (comfort & welfare checks).
  • Ensuring the Treatment Centre is kept clean and tidy.

Medication and Stock Management

  • Using computer systems to maintain accurate stock levels of medication and consumables.
  • Replenishing car stock at the end of shifts.
  • Understanding stock rotation and expiry dates for weekly delivery of medications and consumables.

Shift Flexibility

  • Monday‑Friday evenings (18:15/18:30‑23:00) or Monday‑Friday overnights (23:00‑08:00).
  • Saturday‑Monday shifts 08:00‑08:00 (covering AM/PM/Evening or overnight).

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points and good level of driving experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong administration skills.
  • Ability to work confidently under pressure, act professionally in emergency or stressful situations.
  • Compassion and respect when interacting with patients, relatives, and carers.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; personable, engaging and reassuring.
  • Prepared to undertake a driver’s medical assessment if successful.

Additional Information

The successful applicant will need an Enhanced DBS, which will be applied for by HealthHero upon confirmation of appointment.
