Teaching Assistant – Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria
Vision for Education is partnering with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Barrow-in-Furness to appoint an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant from September 2026. The role is full‑time for the 2026/27 academic year, with the possibility of a permanent position in 2027 for the right candidate.
Role Overview
The successful Teaching Assistant will support learning across Early Years or KS1 classes, working closely with class teachers to support pupils during their early years education and helping to create a positive, engaging and nurturing learning environment.
The role involves supporting children through play‑based learning activities, phonics sessions, language development and early numeracy activities. It also includes providing targeted support for pupils with SEND and SEMH needs, ensuring all children can access learning opportunities and make progress academically and socially.
Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning within EYFS / KS1 classrooms.
- Deliver small‑group and one‑to‑one interventions.
- Assist pupils with SEND and SEMH needs to engage positively with learning.
- Promote children’s communication, social and emotional development.
- Help create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
- Support the implementation of behaviour and learning strategies where required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience working with primary‑aged children, ideally within an EYFS setting.
- Confidence supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patient, caring and flexible approach.
- Commitment to supporting the educational and personal development of all pupils.
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualifications or equivalent experience (desirable).
