IT Support Technician

About the role

We’re looking for an IT Support Technician to join our IT Team and play a key role in delivering advanced technical support to ensure the efficient resolution of IT issues for internal and external users. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network-related problems, as well as providing support for IT infrastructure, system administration, and security. The role is based in either the Peterborough or Halifax office, with occasional opportunities to work on key infrastructure and network projects. Staying updated on emerging technologies is essential; you will be involved in implementing new tools and processes to optimise IT operations.

Key responsibilities

  • Providing in person and remote IT queries and support on workstation, telecoms and applications across all sites in a timely fashion.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal staff, triage and prioritise incoming support requests via phone, email, or ticketing system. Log incidents and service requests, ensuring accurate documentation and resolution tracking.
  • Recognise critical issues and maintain communication with stakeholders.
  • Installing software and patches across workstations.
  • Assist in routine maintenance tasks such as updating software applications, running system diagnostics and performing regular backups to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Support management information and reporting, preparing and developing ideas for improvements.
  • Assist with keeping asset registers up to date.
  • Help maintain company intranet platform.
  • Work towards improving efficiencies within the group by helping automate tasks.
  • Help set up and configure workstations, laptops, peripherals and other IT equipment for new employees or office relocations.
  • Ensure software compliance across the group, keeping track of all licensing.
  • Maintain and update documentation detailing current infrastructure.

Skills and experience

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills.
  • Hardworking and can-do attitude.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Foundational understanding of WAN/LAN and Wireless Networks.
  • Good understanding of hardware (Workstations/Servers/Printers/Projectors).
  • Solution-oriented, looking to get to the bottom of an issue and using initiative.
  • Flexible and collaborative approach to tasks.
  • A strong passion for technology and a desire to pursue a career in IT support.
