We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Area Ranger to join our team in North Pembrokeshire. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in restoring nature at scale across one of the UK’s most spectacular landscapes. You will lead delivery across a defined area, working with tenants, graziers and partners to create resilient, nature-rich landscapes for wildlife, climate and people. You will have a passion for conservation, experience of land management, and the ability to build strong relationships to achieve shared outcomes.

Salary: £31,000 per annum

Contract Duration: Permanent

Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, including on-call duties as part of a rota, occasional evening, weekend and Bank Holiday work. We recognise the importance of flexible working, and will support this wherever possible.

What it’s like to work here

National Trust Cymru looks after some of the most naturally spectacular and culturally rich landscapes in the UK, and Pembrokeshire’s coast and countryside is one of the finest. Across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen Bay, we care for over 70 miles of coastline and more than 4,500 hectares of land, from exposed cliffs and commons in the north to managed estates and estuaries in the south. You will be part of a wider countryside team of rangers and specialists, working closely with colleagues and partners to protect, enhance and make these landscapes accessible for people to enjoy.

We’re proud of the role the Welsh language plays in the places and communities we care for across Wales. Whether you’re a fluent Welsh speaker, a learner, or completely new to the language, we’ll support you to develop the skills and confidence needed for your role and to engage with Welsh language and culture as part of working at the National Trust.

What you’ll be doing

You will play a key role within the North Pembrokeshire ranger team, reporting to the Restore Nature Delivery Manager – Operations. Your primary focus will be acting as the area lead for a group of National Trust sites, including tenanted and licensed farms. You will build strong relationships with tenants, graziers and local communities, supporting nature-friendly land management and ensuring high standards of compliance and safety.

You will plan and deliver conservation work that contributes to landscape-scale nature recovery, including developing work programmes, managing contractors and budgets, and identifying opportunities for habitat restoration.

A key part of the role will be coordinating ecological monitoring across your area, working with specialists and volunteers to gather evidence and inform management decisions.

You will also support wider countryside management, including working with volunteers, assisting with livestock operations when required, and helping communicate conservation work through engagement activities.

Who we’re looking for

  • Practical experience of land management across a variety of habitats such as farmland, grassland, heathland or coastal environments
  • Good understanding of nature-friendly farming systems and experience of working with farmers, graziers or land managers
  • Experience of planning and delivering conservation work, including managing projects, contractors and budgets
  • Experience of ecological monitoring and/or habitat and species surveys, with good field identification skills across a range of habitats and species
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan, prioritise and deliver work programmes effectively
  • Competent IT skills, including experience of using GIS mapping tools and digital systems to support planning, monitoring and land management
  • Experience of working with volunteers and community groups
