Senior Care Assistant (Days only) – Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Broomgrove Trust Nursing Home for two Senior Care Assistants – Days only. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a friendly, supportive, and professional charitable organisation, delivering high-quality care to our residents under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

You will be supported by:

  • Clinical Nurse Manager (Monday–Friday)
  • 2–3 nurses on duty at all times
  • A strong care team (up to 8 carers in the morning, 6 in the afternoon in our 40-bed unit)

About You

  • An experienced Senior Care Assistant/Healthcare Assistant (minimum 2 years’ UK experience)
  • Holds Level 3 in Adult Care, or is willing to complete it within 2 years (Broomgrove will cover the cost of this)
  • Professional, friendly, and approachable
  • A motivated team player with leadership ability
  • Passionate about high‑quality, person‑centred care
  • Confident in mentoring, coaching, and supporting staff
  • Knowledgeable about care standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Calm and capable when managing complex situations
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Supervision
    • Act as Shift Team Leader, allocating tasks based on residents’ needs
    • Supervise carers and ensure high standards of care
    • Be the first point of contact for the care team during shifts
    • Support, train, and mentor new and existing staff
  • Clinical & Care Duties
    • Support delivery of holistic (‘total’) care for residents
    • Monitor residents’ nutrition
    • Personal hygiene (bathing, oral care, etc.)
    • Provide care such as: catheter care, leg bag changes, pad changes

Operational Responsibilities

  • Oversee accurate and timely documentation
  • Ensure smooth running of mealtimes and dining services
  • Conduct daily diary checks and weekly stock checks
  • Attend daily flash meetings

Health & Safety

  • Act as moving & handling trainer, ensuring compliance
  • Carry out fire safety checks and escalade concerns
  • Maintain high standards of safety, hygiene, and infection control

  • Maintain residents’ dignity, independence, and individuality
  • Ensure confidentiality at all times
  • Promote a positive and supportive team environment

Working Hours

Days – Full Time (35 hours/week)

5 shifts per week (including weekends)

Shift options: 07:30 – 15:00, 14:30 – 22:00

Option for one double shift (07:30 – 22:00) per week (fewer working days)

Flexible scheduling available

Salary & Benefits

  • £13.81/hour (Mon–Fri)
  • £16.57/hour (Weekends +20%)
  • £20.72/hour (Bank Holidays)
  • £27.67/hour (Christmas & New Year’s Day)
