SEND Teaching Assistant – Visual Impairment (VI) Support

Huddersfield | Full‑Time | Long‑Term Temporary

Start: September 2026

Pay: £98 – £110 per day, depending on experience (AWR compliant)

Role

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to students with visual impairments
• Assist students within mainstream lessons and specialist provision areas
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual needs
• Promote independence, confidence and engagement across the curriculum
• Work closely with teaching staff, SEND professionals and external agencies
• Support students’ social, emotional and academic development

Ideal Candidate

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND
• Understanding of visual impairment and the barriers students may face within education
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
• Patient, nurturing and adaptable approach
• Experience within schools, SEND settings, care, support work or youth work is advantageous

Requirements

• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
• Right to work in the UK
• Satisfactory references covering the previous two years
