SEND Teaching Assistant
Job Description
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to support pupils with a variety of learning, communication, social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will help create a safe, engaging and inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
Pay
Pay: £85.00 – £90.00 per day
The Role
Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, assist in delivering personalised learning programmes and interventions, promote pupils’ independence, confidence and social development, support pupils with personal care needs where required, work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and parents/carers, monitor and record pupil progress and contribute to reviews and planning, and encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups.
- Assist in delivering personalised learning programmes and interventions.
- Promote pupils’ independence, confidence and social development.
- Support pupils with personal care needs where required.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and parents/carers.
- Monitor and record pupil progress and contribute to reviews and planning.
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Childcare, Education or a related field.
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND.
- Understanding of a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, resilience and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Requirements
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Experience within a specialist SEND school or alternative provision setting.
- Training in Autism, Behaviour Management, Team Teach, Makaton, PECS or similar approaches.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex needs.
