Role Description

This is a full‑time, on‑site Workshop Senior Technician role based in Birmingham (B8). The Workshop Senior Technician will oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the mobility device workshop, ensuring that electric wheelchairs and related products are assembled, customized, inspected, and repaired to high quality and safety standards. Responsibilities include documenting procedures for future training, monitoring turnaround times, and maintaining efficient workflows to meet customer and business requirements. The role involves coaching and supporting workshop technicians, promoting safe working practices, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The Workshop Senior Technician will coordinate with customer service, warehouse, and management to prioritize jobs, manage parts and inventory, handle technical issues, and support accurate documentation and reporting on workshop performance.

This role will evolve into future progression for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • Strong technical and mechanical skills related to assembly, maintenance, and repair of electrical or mechanical equipment (experience with mobility devices or similar products is highly desirable).
  • Proven experience in a workshop, service, or production environment, with responsibility for overseeing daily tasks and meeting quality and productivity targets.
  • Leadership abilities including team supervision, task delegation, coaching.
  • Solid understanding of health, safety, and compliance standards in a workshop setting, with a commitment to safe systems of work and equipment care.
  • Organizational and planning skills, including workload prioritization, time management, and effective coordination with other departments.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills to support instructions, job documentation, and coordination with colleagues and customers.
  • Customer‑focused mindset, with empathy and professionalism when supporting mobility users and resolving technical or service issues.
  • Ability to use basic IT systems (e.g., email, service/repair logging software, inventory tools) and willingness to learn new systems as needed.
  • Relevant vocational qualification or apprenticeship in engineering, mechanics, electronics, or a related field is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in healthcare, mobility, or assistive technology sectors is an advantage but not required.
