Milk Education is currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and dedicated History Teacher to join a thriving secondary school in Abbey Wood from September 2026 until February 2027 on a full‑time maternity cover contract.
This History Teacher role is a fantastic opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to inspiring students through the study of history and helping them develop critical thinking, analytical, and evaluative skills. The successful History Teacher will join a supportive Humanities department and play a key role in delivering engaging lessons that bring historical events, cultures, and societies to life.
Located in Abbey Wood, the school benefits from excellent transport links, including the Elizabeth Line, making it easily accessible from across South East London and Kent. The local area has undergone significant regeneration in recent years and is home to a diverse and vibrant community, providing an exciting environment for an ambitious History Teacher looking to make a meaningful impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering engaging History lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4
- Creating an inclusive and stimulating learning environment that encourages curiosity and discussion
- Developing students’ understanding of historical events, themes, and interpretations
- Assessing, monitoring, and recording student progress effectively
- Differentiating learning to meet the needs of all students
- Managing classroom behaviour in line with school policies
- Contributing to the wider Humanities department and school community
The Ideal Candidate Will
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
- Have experience teaching History at secondary level
- Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a passion for History education
- Have excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Be committed to achieving positive outcomes for all students
- Be able to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
