Position Summary
Under the direction and supervision of the Environmental Manager, the candidate will provide support in a variety of tasks throughout daily operations that affect environmental compliance.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintain regular attendance and work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends and holidays.
- Comply with company, federal, state and local safety, ethical rules, regulations and policies while performing duties.
- Assist co‑workers in ensuring production follows federal, state and local environmental permits, laws and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain inventory and storage of hazardous materials in accordance with company policies and regulations.
- Accurately complete and file required paperwork in a timely manner.
- Work with minimal supervision and carry out duties as instructed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- One year of environmental work experience desired (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
- Knowledge of ship terminology and environmental regulations desired.
- Ability to read and comprehend written or diagrammatic forms, plans and instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
- Basic math proficiency (add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure).
- Integrity, ethics, flexibility, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious and multitasking ability.
- Maintain confidentiality of company information.
Physical Demands
Frequent standing, walking, use of hands and arms, lifting or moving up to 50 pounds, working at heights of at least 50 feet, operating in confined spaces and extreme temperatures. Requires visual acuity and ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Work Environment
Exposure to electrical shock, moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, loud noise and other hazards typical of a heavy industrial shipyard environment. Rigorous compliance with safety procedures and personal safety equipment is mandatory.
