Assistant Headteacher

Primary School | Cornwall

Location: Cornwall

Salary: £55,000 – £70,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

Start Date: September 2026 or January 2027

About the Role

As Assistant Headteacher, you will play a key role in the strategic and operational leadership of the school. You will support the Headteacher in delivering high‑quality teaching and learning, developing staff, and promoting a positive school culture. This role offers a balance of leadership responsibilities and teaching commitments, providing an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact across the whole school community. The successful candidate will be passionate about primary education, committed to inclusion, and dedicated to creating an environment where children can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Headteacher in the leadership and management of the school
  • Lead on teaching, learning, and curriculum development
  • Drive pupil attainment, progress, and achievement
  • Support staff development, coaching, and performance management
  • Monitor teaching standards and promote best practice across the school
  • Lead whole‑school improvement initiatives
  • Promote inclusion, safeguarding, attendance, and pupil wellbeing
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents, governors, and external agencies
  • Contribute to strategic planning and school self‑evaluation

About You

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Significant experience within a Primary School setting
  • Previous leadership experience as an Assistant Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, Phase Leader, KS1 Lead, KS2 Lead, or Senior Teacher
  • A proven track record of raising standards and improving pupil outcomes
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
  • Strong understanding of curriculum development and assessment
  • A commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
  • The ability to inspire, motivate, and develop staff and pupils
