Are you a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant looking to support pupils with Special Educational Needs in a rewarding school environment?
Our education recruitment agency is working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lambeth to recruit a Year 5/6 SEN Teaching Assistant to join the school’s specialist Autism Resource Base. This is an excellent opportunity to support upper Key Stage 2 pupils as they develop the academic, social and independence skills needed for a successful transition to secondary school.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils with Autism (ASC).
- Assist pupils in accessing a personalised curriculum tailored to their individual learning needs and EHCP targets.
- Support communication, emotional regulation, executive functioning and social skills.
- Implement structured routines, visual supports and positive behaviour strategies to help pupils engage in learning.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to deliver targeted interventions and monitor progress.
- Promote independence, confidence and preparation for the transition to secondary education.
- Support personal care where required.
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience supporting children with Autism or other Special Educational Needs in a school, care or similar setting.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach with excellent communication skills.
- Understanding of Key Stage 2 and the needs of pupils preparing for secondary school is desirable.
- Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is advantageous but not essential.
- Graduates in Psychology, Education or related subjects are encouraged to apply.
