Job Overview
Working within the Waltham Forest Recovery College. The Peer Trainer will have lived experience of mental health issues and/or services. They will have the ability to inspire, model and inform others, and to draw positively on their own experience to deliver recovery courses and workshops to the Recovery College’s students. The Peer Trainer will work alongside the Recovery College Lead, users of services, carers, volunteers, and staff, to co‑design, plan and successfully deliver the workshops and courses for the Waltham Forest Recovery College. Courses focus on providing a better understanding of mental health issues, learning, and developing people’s life skills and knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Plan, co‑design, develop and co‑deliver recovery‑focused courses and workshops.
- Support services users to actively engage in the Recovery College.
- Support the promotion of the Recovery College.
- Work with students to assess their learning needs to improve their mental health condition and enable them to understand, self‑manage and where appropriate, change their behaviour.
- Act as a role model to service users to inspire hope, share life experiences and lessons learned as a person in recovery.
- Work in a manner that respects and acknowledges the cultural, social, personal, and spiritual strengths and needs of service users.
- Signpost / promote resources and access to community groups and networks that enable service users to participate in community activities.
- Collaborate with co‑workers, including Trust colleagues, peers, and external co‑production partners.
- Support other members of the team in promoting a recovery‑oriented environment and in identifying recovery focused activities, information/education as required.
- Participate in the Recovery College steering group and other relevant meetings.
- Report any incident/untoward incidents/near misses to self, patients or carers to the Recovery College Clinical Lead.
