Overview

Internal applicants must apply via MySelf. An opportunity is available within St Lucy’s Primary School, Language & Communication Unit (LCSC) North Lanarkshire Council, to assist children who have additional support needs. As a Learning Assistant (Universal) you will work with children to support them in their school environment.

There is also a requirement to care for children, assist with their personal hygiene requirements and ensure the maintenance of stocks of hygiene sundries where necessary. Daily reception and departure of children and messenger or escort duties will also be part of the role. You may be involved in classroom duties such as preparing classwork and materials, setting up and operating teaching aids, recording programmes and reprographic work.

PVG Scheme membership is required prior to commencing in this role. There are both permanent and temporary posts available.

Responsibilities

  • Care for children and assist with personal hygiene where required.
  • Maintain stocks of hygiene sundries as necessary.
  • Receive and depart children daily; provide messenger or escort duties as needed.
  • Support classroom activities: prepare classwork/materials, set up and operate teaching aids, record programmes, and perform reprographic work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Recent experience working with children in a voluntary capacity or in a school setting is essential.
  • Good communication and interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Willingness to undertake specific NHS or Education training as required.
  • Experience of working with children/young people who have additional needs is desirable.

Post Details

  • One permanent post – 25 hours per week.
  • Three temporary posts – 20 hours per week (temporary posts until December 2026).
  • All posts will work Monday to Friday between 8:30am – 4:30pm.
