Responsibilities
You may support pupils with a variety of Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs, including:
- ASC Autism Spectrum Condition
- ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
- SEMH Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs
- MLD Moderate Learning Difficulties
- SLD Severe Learning Difficulties
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
- Sensory Processing Needs
As part of the role, you will:
- Provide one-to-one support and small-group interventions
- Support personalised learning programmes tailored to individual pupil needs
- Assist with classroom learning activities and daily routines
- Support communication using visual aids, structured communication systems, and autism-friendly approaches
- Help pupils develop emotional regulation, social interaction, and independence skills
- Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
- Encourage pupil engagement, confidence, and participation in learning
- Support pupils during transitions and throughout daily routines
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and school staff
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and wider support teams
- Contribute to creating a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment
What We’re Looking For

- Education and classroom support
- Care and support services
- Residential childcare
- Youth and community work
- Nursery and early years settings
- Sports coaching and mentoring
- Psychology, health, and social care backgrounds
Successful candidates will typically demonstrate:
- A patient, resilient, and positive approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- The ability to build trust and positive relationships
- Confidence supporting behaviour and emotional wellbeing
- Experience working with children or young people
- Understanding of autism, communication needs, or sensory needs (desirable)
- CACHE Level 2, CACHE Level 3, or equivalent qualifications (desirable but not essential)
- A willingness to learn and develop within SEN and ALN education
